Who is the toy designer’s real competition?

I woke up several times last night thinking about how much money it takes to survive as a toy designer. I didn’t inherit money and I’ve got to keep an eye on the money constantly to survive. Competition is the next important thing on my mind after the money. Do I know who or what what I am competing against? Who or what is a danger? Why is the competition winning? What can I do to move to the front of the market so I can keep the money flowing in and survive and prosper?
I continue to treat myself as a good friend I can’t trust and consider and reconsider options. What sounds good at 3 A.M. looks pretty silly sometimes at 3 P.M. But I continue to think about what is my most important competition. I don’t think it is other toy designers. Every day I get my biggest boost from toy designers and they provide a constant flow of ideas and examples and stories that I live for and draw upon daily. They also keep the public’s interest in toys healthy and vibrant. No single toy designer could keep the toy industry alive. We are a competitive team that works together to help our craft survive. I think that the toy designer’s real competition is anything money buys that is not spent on buying toys. The real competition is rent, groceries, cars, travel, movies, music, hobbies, sports and a lot more. My designs have to stand out from all the competition and possess the quality, value, and charm to stand equal to the work of all the toy designers who have learned to survive and prosper in a survival-of-the fittest market.
